Gigi Monroe presents...
Taking it back to the old school... join us for Juneau Pride's first Tea Dance!
The Disco Tea Dance is a nod to the 1950s and 60s when they became a queer tradition - out of necessity
It was illegal for men to dance with other men, or women to dance with other women. It was also “illegal for bars to knowingly sell alcohol to homosexuals.” These afternoon tea dances were held in speakeasy fashion; in the event of a raid, gay men and lesbian women would quickly change partners to mixed-couples.
Since that time, the tradition stuck around as a really fun way to end a weekend and get up for work Monday morning!
Join us to close out the fabulously queen month of June and leave it all on the dance floor!
Disco Diva DJ Gigi Monroe will provide the sounds to keep you movin' and groovin'
Louie's will feature Pride-themed cocktails and PUDDING SHOTS. Yup, you read that correctly.
